The finished product!

My Personal Reflection/Accomplishments

1. Discuss how the project helped deepened your understanding and broadened your awareness of the selected discipline.
I understood about how it takes a lot of time and effort to photoshop a picture to make it look like those in magazines.

2. Discuss what you understand now about this discipline that you were unaware of at the beginning.
Prior to this workshop I only knew about the very basics of photoshop and now I'm more familiar with some of the tools used in the software, helping me explore and learn more about the other things that I may not be so familiar with.

3. Describe how you can connect what you have learned from doing this project to what you are learning at school.
I can connect this to subjects like ADMT because it helps when we do digital art that require the use of softwares like this to help us in our tasks.

4. Describe how you can apply what you have learned from doing this project.
I can apply my skills to a lot of projects or performance tasks given when the use of media is required. For example ADMT, if we were to design a poster, I'd be able to use photoshop to design and edit the poster as compared to other softwares.

Plenary Sessions (Day 1)

A) My key learning points from each session..

"Earthquake Research on Coral Reefs of Sumatra" by Prof Kerry Sieh
This topic was very interesting as we had learnt about earthquake during geography lessons in school. However, this lecture provided me with a deeper insight into that topic and also about how corals and other ground materials are used to determine, for example, how old a coral is.

"IT for Animation" by Prof Seah Hock Soon
I was very interested to learn more about this topic because in Secondary One, we had a task to animate a short film and I knew how difficult it was to come up with that. I learnt about the full process that happens while animating an animation film. Even though 2D animation has a beautiful artform, it takes skilled artists and is labour intensive and is also very expensive to make. This is why most animations nowadays choose the other option, which is stop motion animation. I also learnt on how maths and physics is also involved in animation. For example, geometry, linear algebra and calculus. Laws of  physics are also applied for the dynamic of water, fire and fabric movement. Also, Avatar was a  movie to use motion capture which is to use a tracking device placed on someone and then translated into the animation. Lastly, I learnt about how the new and advanced technology helps with in-between frames or shots which makes the animation process a whole lot easier.

"Innovative Breakthrough in Nano-Science and Nano-Technology" by Prof MA Jan
This topic really enlightened me about nano technology and why it is more effective despite being smaller in size. They are viewed using a scanning electron microscope.

(B) New questions I have about the topic are..
How is photoshop applicable in real life?

Pre-Camp Reflections

What interests you about this project?
I've always wanted to learn about photoshop and digital painting having seen it on the internet so many times.

What do you want to learn by doing this project?
I want to learn how to digitally alter photos and how to apply it to certain types of project work, if needed.

What questions do you have about this project?
The questions that I have for this project is, how long does it take to do a piece of work and how tedious is it going to be?

What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?
I would want to have achieved the skill of using photoshop by the end of this project.
